Obama Rally in Wilmington, Delaware

When I heard that Barack Obama would be speaking in the middle of Rodney Square, the photojournalist in my heart assured me that this was an event not to miss! Barack Obama made an appearance in Rodney Square, in Wilmington, Delaware, today to rally voters in anticipation of the big Super Tuesday vote in just 2 days. I’m not sure of the exact number but I can tell you that there were thousands upon thousands of people there. It was pretty crazy, I have to say, to see so many people in one place and it not be a professional sports game or concert. WOW. I think I witnessed something pretty big today. (Pretty big for our small state anyway!)

Here are some images from the rally:

Thousands of would be voters showed up at the rally. People of many different races and ages but all of them to hear Obama speak in person.

Kaylee Olney, from Wilmington, Delaware, waits to see Barack Obama.

Obama, after he entered the platform and started his speech.

Obama, as he spoke to the crowd of thousands.

Obama envoked many cheers from the crowd with his words.

Obama claps along with the crowd, and waves after he’s finished his speech.

Obama takes time to shake hands with people in the crowd, before leaving Rodney Square.

I wonder how the rally will affect the decisions of many voters, come Tuesday. One thing is for sure though….whatever your beliefs or whoever your candidate……make sure you GO OUT AND VOTE!! :)

Majesta Valentine – Olympic Gymnast Hopeful

So if you haven’t noticed recently, I have some nifty little links in the column on the right side of my blog….one of those links is to the website of a young girl, named Majesta. Majesta is a young gymnast with hopes of a future in the Olympics. She’s quite a talented young lady! I had the pleasure of photographing some of her athletic abilities last weekend at her first competition (meet) of the year, the KMC Fall Frenzy. Check out her wicked moves below:

A wide angle of the gym at full speed in the middle of the meet:

Majesta on the Balance Beam. She received her highest
score (of the meet) on this event, at 9.40. :)

Yep, she sure did land on that beam after this move!

Majesta performing her Floor routine:

Ummm…..Yeah. She’s doing a full split in mid-air…pretty crazy.

2nd place All Round for her first time competing as a Level 8! Congrats, Majesta! :)

Majesta Valentine trains at KMC Gymnastics, in Kennett Square. Go check out Majesta’s Website and Majesta’s Blog to see some cool videos (and pictures!) of her competing from this and other events! Leave her some love on her blog and join me in wishing her the best as she continues her journey to the Olympics. :)

Also, if you’re in the giving mood (as the holidays ARE right around the corner!) than feel free to donate to Majesta’s training fund, as I have, through the link on her website. Competitive Gymnastics training is very VERY expensive, so her family would be ever so grateful for your generosity! :)

World Figure Skating Send-Off Exhibition

This Saturday I had the privilege of shooting the World Figure Skating Send-Off Exhibition, featuring Kimmie Meissner and other World Champions. It was an amazing event, held at the Fred Rust Ice Arena at the University of Delaware. I was able to obtain a press pass to shoot along the sidelines of the ice. The skaters performed for a sold-out crowd. Here are some of the pictures I got:

Kimmie Meissner–2006 World Champion, 2007 Ladies National Champion

Albena Denkova and Maxim Stavisky–2006 World Dance Champions, 2007 World Team Members – Bulgaria

Nozomi Wantanabe and Akiyuki Kido–2007 World Team Members – Japan

Minna Lee and Taylor Toth–2007 Novice Pairs National Team Members

Melisa Gregory and Denis Petukhov–2007 Championship Dance National Silver Medalists

Firemen

So this past weekend, Marc and I were home and a firetruck whizzed by our house in our neighborhood! I thought they were police sirens but Marc noticed the firetruck and told me about it. So what do I do? Shoot it, of course! :) I grabbed up my camera (still in house clothes! lol) and ran down the street to find the firetruck.  The firemen were extremely nice and told me I could shoot whatever I wanted.   Some local kids wanted me to take their picture because they thought I was from a newspaper!   It turned out to be a brush fire (looks like some kids set some books on fire near the edge of the woods in our neighbornhood) so there wasn’t much action.  I tried to focus on the the presence of the firemen instead, and focus less on the lack of action.  Here’s a couple of my favs:
