Saying Goodbye to Summer

On this Autumn equinox, I thought it appropriate to bid adieu to Summer by sharing some sunrise photos I took at Lewes beach over the 4th of July weekend.  My in-laws have a lovely beach home down there and as it turns out, this long weekend my husband and I took (with our doggies too!) was the first in over 2 years since we’ve visited!  It was so sad to realize this but we did enjoy ourselves immensely on this mini-vaca.  I forced myself to trek down on the beach at sunrise both mornings, which came at an impossibly early 5:20am!  Whew!  Our darling dog, Peanut, accompanied me on both trips to the water and it was the most peaceful and beautiful time I’ve ever spent.  I’m fully convinced that the beach at sunrise is the most perfect time and place to be in the world!  Sigh.  Summer, you will be missed.

The beach is so incredibly peaceful, calm and quiet at 4:30am.  Oh yes, I was here that early.  lol

I love these two in B&W, I was surprised because I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sunrise (or sunset) photo work out very well in B&W!

Since there was nobody on the beach with us that morning, I let Peanut run around off leash.  He never strays too far from my side anyhow.

and just for the fun of it, I shot a video so I could always be able to remember this calm and peaceful moment.  :)

Old City Philadelphia Engagement :: Jen & Jeff

Jen and Jeff were just the tiniest bit camera shy when we first met up in Old City Philadelphia for their engagement session.  As it happens, this is not uncommon, so I assured them that it wouldn’t feel so bad once we got into it.  I can relate, as undeniable a passion as mine is for this art, I am loath to jump in front of the camera for a taste of my own medicine (Self-portraits excluded, of course ;) ).  Being a believer of practicing what you preach, however, has me in front of the camera at least once a year (for our annual holiday cards) and sometimes even in between.  I am so particular about my own photos, in fact, that I only look to a very short list of trusted colleagues, knowing they will make it fun and produce great photos.  I truly feel that repeatedly being in the position that I put my clients in makes me more sympathetic to their unease in front of the camera and I try my hardest to abate or eliminate that anxiety.  Needless to say, I was very pleased to hear it when Jen said the experience wasn’t anywhere near as bad as she imagined.  :)   Now, onward to some fun photos from their session…

Baby Ryleigh :: Delaware Newborn Photographer

Rachel & Adam welcomed baby Ryleigh into the world in August and were surrounded by friends and family when I arrived at the hospital to photograph their growing family.  A lot of conversation was made on the topic of who she looked more like…mom or dad?  Dad’s baby photo appeared from Grandma’s wallet for comparison and it was decided that she had her daddy’s hair but her sweet little nose looked more like her momma’s.  It was a beautiful day and such a pleasure to document the hospital room happenings on beautiful baby Ryleigh’s first day of life.
