Well, Christy and I had decided we were going to the movies on Saturday. Little did we know…our plans were about to change! We headed out of my development and as we were turning the corner, we noticed 2 dogs ( a Golden Retriever and a Beagle) running towards us from the field. I stopped the car so we wouldn’t hit them. We realized that they had no humans in tow, no identification tags and the beagle was having difficulty breathing, so we decided to “rescue” them. All we had to do was open the door to the car and the golden retriever jumped right in! We took them back to my house and got them some water. We drove around the neighboring developments in search of their home but to no avail after about an hour. Back to my house again! After they chilled out for awhile on my kitchen floor, (which was seemingly comfortable for the beagle, who was spread out on all fours!) we took them for a walk to see if they would lead us to their family. We walked all the way through the apartment complex next to our community, until they stopped at a fence on the other side. They stared through the chainlink fence for a bit, leading us to believe they must live on the other side, but we could find no break in the fence to let them through! By this time, the beagle was breathing heavy again so we decided to head back to my house.
When we returned home, I took some photos of each of the dogs and made up FOUND flyers with them. Christy posted them around all the developments near us on her way home that day, in hopes that their family might recognize the pictures and call to take them home. At this point I started to make plans for longer term care, in case we couldn’t locate their owners. As many of you know, Marc and I have 2 dogs of our own, so it wouldn’t exactly be easy to have 4 dogs in the house! Not to mention that Maddie, our papillon, is not spayed and the golden retriever was not neutered….We certainly didn’t want a puppy situation on our hands either! So I called my dad, who graciously offered to foster them for a few days, if needed. Christy brought over some extra collars and leashes, along with some of Scooby’s dog food, and I took them over to my dad’s for the night. Boy were my dogs relieved! LOL! We had them separated from the rescue dogs the whole day and they barked the entire time!
The next morning, I called Dad to see how the dogs were doing and he said they were just fine. They had no problems eating and they didn’t mess in the house overnight, so that was good. Just as I was finishing breakfast, the phone rang.
“Hello?”
“I think you found my dogs!” replied the woman on the other end, very excitedly!
Yay! She had seen one of the flyers I made and rushed home to call! She went on to describe that her golden retriever, Sparky, and her beagle, Bubbers, were accidently let out Saturday morning and had been missing since. She described that they looked like and even knew which one was neutered and which not, so I knew they must be hers. I called my dad and asked him to call the dogs by their names and their ears perked right up! I called Amber back and we immediately decided on a time for her to come get her dogs. I was so relieved! I called Dad back and he brought the dogs back over to our house. Amber picked them up a short while later. Sparky and Bubbers were so excited to see their mommy! I was so glad that we were able to reunite them with their family….I know if we were ever separated from our beloved animals, we would hope someone would do the same for us. I think my dad liked the company though, he was almost dissappointed to bring them back to my house. I think he found a buddy in Sparky. LOL
Christy and I are starting to wonder if maybe someone is trying to tell us something! This is the second time, in only a few months, that we were heading some where and rescued dogs along the way! I guess we’re just in the right place at the right time!
